Vera Hops
Vera Hop Profile
Vera is a new hop variety to be released by the USDA ARS in partnership with the Hop Research Council, shining above the rest at the HOPSOURCE sensory evaluation. Vera is a female diploid stemming from parental crosses like Brewer's Gold, a wild Manitoba hop, and a mildew resistant Wild American hop. This new variety takes her name from the eponymous Vera Katherine Charles, one of several USDA female mycologists whose sustainability research benefits the hop industry to this day. Vera checks many boxes the market is looking for — pest resistant, agronomic sustainability, high yield potential and fruit-forward flavor. Expect tropical, stonefruit and citrus aromas upon first impression and "reminiscent of a pineapple flavored Life-Savers® candy" in the final beer.
Hopsource is a public hop sensory assessment event hosted by the Brewers Association at Yakima Valley Hops during the harvest season. Learn more about our yearly Hopsource event here.
