MJF Hop Blend
The MJF Hop Blend
In Collaboration with the Michael James Jackson Foundation
Founded in 2020, the Michael James Jackson Foundation is a grant-making organization that funds scholarship awards for people of color pursuing careers in the brewing and distilling trades. This exclusive blend was created by the MJF board members at an event hosted by Brooklyn Brewery, where sixteen different varieties were evaluated, blended, and narrowed down to a winning blend of select lots. The final, fruit-forward blend features Citra®, Citra LUPOMAX®, Elani® and El Dorado®, including select Citra lots from our friends at Loza Farms — the only Latino-owned hop farm in the nation.
The shared goal of the MJF and Haas is to grow the future of brewing. This includes sustainable hop farming and processing practices, increased efficiency in brewing, and researching ways to optimize hop products and sharing knowledge with our peers. Growing the future of brewing also means cultivating talent and opportunity, diversifying the industry through engagement with traditionally underrepresented groups, and removing barriers to access.
“We are helping literally change the face of American brewing,” said Garrett Oliver, "The MJF is about genuine and lasting change.”
Every pound includes a $5 donation that John I. Haas made to the Michael James Jackson Foundation.
The MJF was named the 2024 nonprofit of the year by Vinepair. You can read more about Haas and MJF's collaboration and selection process here.
