CTZ Hops - Best Hop for Bittering

CTZ HOP PROFILE (Columbus, Tomahawk, Zeus)

"CTZ" stands for Columbus, Tomahawk, and Zeus. These three hop varietals are nearly indistinguishable from one another despite going by different names. CTZ hops have earthy and spicy characteristics that make it an ideal bittering hop for many styles including IPAs, Stouts, and even Lagers. Its Alpha Acids clock in between 14-16%, which contributes an impressive bite. Some undertones of oranges and grapefruit can be achieved in the aroma with later hop additions, but CTZ is not typically used in SMaSH beers.

CTZ hops are one of the Top Hops for Hazy IPAs and pairs beautifully with Nugget and Chinook because it checks all of the boxes for aroma, flavor, and biotransformation compounds.

CTZ Hop Brewing Values

Aroma: Earthy, spicy, pungent, with some citrus overtones. Not overwhelmingly citrus like Cascade
Typical Usage: Again, another dual purpose hop.
Beer Styles: American pales and IPA. Bittering for American stouts and lagers.

This is a classic hop for a reason. So much piney, dank that pairs well with the likes of Citra or mosaic .. brew a danky hop bomb .. use for bittering , whirlpool & dry hop. Boom!

CTZ HOP SUBSTITUTIONS 

CTZ is dank and pungent. Its high alpha acid composition makes for a perfect bitter hop and great for stouts. Chinook, Nugget, and Warrior carry a lot of the same characteristics making them the perfect substitutions for CTZ.
