2026 AUSTRALIAN
HARVEST REPORT
Big flavor from Down Under is back!
The 2026 Australian hop harvest is in, bringing another fresh crop of some of the most distinctive hops in the world. Hop Products Australia harvested 1,296 tonnes across its farms in Victoria and Tasmania this season. Even after a challenging growing year that included drought and heat events in Victoria, crop quality remained strong, with impressive aroma potential across HPA's proprietary varieties.
For brewers, that means fresh access to the unmistakable flavors of Galaxy®, Eclipse®, Vic Secret™, and Enigma®, from punchy passionfruit and peach to bright mandarin, pineapple, pine, white grape, and red currant.
Why Brew with Australian Hops?
Australian hops bring a flavor profile all their own. HPA's proprietary varieties have been bred and selected for high-impact aroma, brewing performance, and resilience in Australian growing conditions. The result is a lineup that can deliver serious flavor intensity while giving brewers plenty of room to experiment across IPAs, pale ales, lagers, and beyond.
For the 2026 crop, HPA also continued implementing the Sensory Plus™ program, combining sensory evaluation and analytics to identify true-to-type hops and build more consistent pellet blends. That means the character you expect from your favorite Aussie variety should show up where it matters most: in the glass.
Galaxy® - Passionfruit. Peach. Citrus. The Aussie icon.
Galaxy® is the hop that helped put modern Australian hops on the map. Its unmistakable combination of punchy passionfruit, juicy peach, and bright citrus can bring huge aromatic impact to hop-forward beer.
Where it shines: Hazy IPA, American IPA, Pale Ale, juicy session beers, and anywhere you want ripe tropical fruit to take center stage.
Try it when: You want a hop to lead the recipe rather than disappear into the blend. Galaxy® also plays especially well alongside other modern fruit-forward varieties like Citra® and Mosaic®.
2026 crop note: Galaxy® remained HPA's largest proprietary variety by volume at 595 tonnes this harvest.
Eclipse® - Sweet mandarin with a fresh pine edge.
Eclipse® delivers an immediately recognizable combination of sweet mandarin, zesty citrus peel, and fresh pine needles. That balance lets it move comfortably between modern juicy beer and more structured, West Coast-inspired hop profiles.
Where it shines: West Coast IPA, Hazy IPA, Pale Ale, modern lager, and hop-forward beers that need citrus without becoming one-dimensional.
Try it when: You want saturated orange and mandarin character with enough pine to provide definition and structure.
2026 crop note: HPA more than doubled Eclipse® production this year, harvesting 196 tonnes, up 107.1% year over year, in response to contracted demand.
Vic Secret™ - Big pineapple. Resinous pine. Serious versatility.
Vic Secret™ combines big pineapple character with an herbaceous, pine-driven edge, making it an excellent tool when you want tropical fruit without losing definition.
HPA called Vic Secret™ its "workhorse" of the 2026 crop, highlighting both reliable yields and intense aromatics expected to perform strongly in beer.
Where it shines: IPA, Pale Ale, West Coast IPA, Hazy IPA, and intensely dry-hopped beers.
Try it when: You're looking for tropical impact with a little more bite and structure than a purely soft, juicy hop profile.
2026 crop note: Production climbed to 401 tonnes, up 63.5% from 2025, making Vic Secret™ the second-largest variety in HPA's 2026 harvest.
Enigma® - White grape, red currant, and rockmelon.
Enigma® is one of the more distinctive personalities in the Australian hop lineup, bringing a complex combination of white grape, tart red currant, and sweet rockmelon.
It can feel almost wine-like compared with more straightforward citrus or tropical varieties, which makes it particularly interesting for brewers looking to build something outside the usual IPA flavor playbook.
Where it shines: Pale Ale, IPA, modern lager, Saison, experimental beer, and recipes designed around layered fruit character.
Try it when: You want complexity rather than sheer tropical intensity. Pair it with a citrus-forward hop for contrast, or let its grape and currant character lead the beer.
2026 crop note: There's less Enigma® to go around than usual with only 20 tonnes harvested, down 43.2% from the previous crop.
